In 1960 Lie A Fo went to Europe and travelled round working as musician until he discovered
art. The period between 1979 and 1983 saw him active in his home country where he produced many graphics, experimenting with bauxite and the earth colours of Suriname, as well as painting in a sometimes crude, elementary drawing style. He subsequently settled in neighbouring French Guiana.
