Hatterman, Nola Hendrika Petronella
(Amsterdam, 1899-Brokopondo1984)
Left the theatre in 1925 and focused on drawing and painting. Took private lessons for three years from art teacher Charles Haak.
Exhibited under the auspices of the Leage of Coloured People in London 1950.
Left for Suriname in 1953.
Head of the Surinam Cultural Centre School of Art (NSBK).
Stepped down in 1972 and founded the New School of Art (NSBK).

Made an extensive study of African history, art and culture. The black man formed the subject of many of her drawings, paintings and lithographs. Worked in a naturalist style. Painted many (group) portraits. Produced several history pieces in Suriname.
